I go to a different ivy and after having seen CFML, I’ve never been happier I’m not there or felt worse for CC students due to BC girls, FYL. (Yet MLIG -sorry guys..)

Look...
There may be tension between BC and CC girls here, but it still beats Cornell, sorry.

Plus...
…we have more girls.

I wanted to go to Columbia all my life, then after a recent visit, I discovered NYC isn’t really for me. FML

I don’t like NYC either. I’m only going to Columbia because I couldn’t get into Brown. But I’ve learned to accept it.

Weird, I thought it’s significantly harder to get into Columbia than Brown…?

im glad you’ve learned to accept it. now let me tell you: being a douche is not a prerequisite here. so you can shut the fuck up now.

Yeah. 4 years of being harassed and told that you don’t go to Columbia, then being handed a diploma on the last day that says COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY (well, in Latin) in large print across the top of it is is major BS. It hurts.

I’m arguing about how Barnard isn’t a legit part of columbia on columbiafml.com when I could be sleeping. FML.

Why does it matter to you anyways? Does excluding others make you feel better about your lame existence?
-
reality
Does projecting your insecurities on others lessen your own burden?
Barnard wouldn’t get so much shit if the girls were more secure about being Barnard students. But you people take it like an insult to be fought against. As soon as someone makes a distinction, the one that’s on your motherfucking diploma, you go apeshit.
“How DARE you tell me which college I go to?! I go to your college! My college is your college!”

Hey STUPID, Barnard has been part of Columbia University since 1890 when women weren’t allowed at Columbia. Founded by President Fredrick Barnard of CU, it was not until we REJECTED CC’s offer to become part of CC that CC women were even allowed in (1982). After more than a century on CC women, we don’t need to justify why Barnard is a part of Columbia University

I applied to Barnard to be around smart and passionate women who want to make a difference in this world. I found them, but now I also have to deal with the Columbia kids, the most negative, arrogant and self-absorbed pricks I have ever met. FML

CC'11
….And you’re upset because we won’t marry you?

Not interested in you CC
Get off your high-horse CC’11. It’s comments like yours that perpetuate the belief that women are inferior beings and have no other purpose for attending college except to find a husband.
-
CC'11
Right. It’s comments like these.
NOT the fact that Barnard irls walk around with this chip on their shoulders, thinking all Columbia folks are laughing at them, NOT the fact that you morons will argue tooth and nail that you’re “Columbia students”, completely lessening the value of Barnard as an institution in the process. Nothing at all to do with you bitches, parading around Butler in heels trying to get male attention, or the fact that you people go as far as to make FAKE Columbia idea (I’ve seen 4 instances) just to fit in.
Right, no. It’s posts like mine. On behalf of everyone from our side of he street; SHUT THE FUCK UP, BARNARD.

I go to Barnard, which has more competitive admissions than CC. I have to endure both constant whinging by CC students about Barnard and Columbia taking credit for every Barnard woman as a “Columbian ahead of her time.” FML.

Please...
LOL. I’m sorry I’m still on that first sentence. Are we just flat-out lying now?
That’s a nice little world you’ve created for yourself there, isn’t it? Do you also define yourself as “fit by 1650 standards”?

CC Lady
(LOL, shout out to my CC-kin with the first comment; I had the same reaction.) No one woman in CC dreams about defecting to Barnard; trust me, that’s an established truth. During 2008-2009 admissions, CC admitted 8.92% of its applicants (a total of 1,897 students of 21,273 applicants) and BC admitted 28.5% (1,218 students of 4,274 applicants). In true pursuit of clarity as a CC alum and Core Curriculum vet, I also would prefer that you define the requirements and scope of your competitive analysis and unwarranted conclusions. In other words BC-Rep, BC is the most competitive of ALL WOMEN’S INSTITUTIONS (but that does not encompass all other colleges and universities, particularly those without gender-specific enrollment…Sorry). CC ranks as 1 of 10 most selective admissions processes across the country. BC did not even make that list.
i am not normally swept to produce a blizzard of facts but like most intelligent CC beings, I check my facts before I talk shit and become an unseemly ass. (You are already online, google your shit before your shit buries you.) Furthermore, per your asinine interjection, I’m compelled to ask the following:
(1.) If CC and BC represent such “direct competitors, why don’t Barnard alumnae and students collectively add in and list BC rather than select CU on their Facebook pages rather than opt to cling to the merest affiliation to CC and CU, (I know, I know, found that first job after college and you just have to impress your boss and co-workers, right?); and
(2. ) Why are you sweating your shit (quite rabidly, ineffectually and incorrectly, actually–I love employing a trifecta, I’m an ivy-leaguer after all) on a site that caters predominantly to expressions by Columbia University students (CC, SEAS, GS, etc)?I would have left out the facts and but you’re crazy. Hence, you need knowledge–it’s OK though, you can always cross the street and come get some of what we have.
P.S. I went to an all-girls’ high school and I’m impressed by the caliber of intelligent women I met then. You not so much. FYL

CC Lady, that’s an awful lot of bitterness you’re showing there. Life after graduation must be really lame that you have to justify the superiority of your undergraduate education on a website for current students. I feel sorry for you.
-
CC Lady
Assuming you’re from Barnard (and I assume you are), I have a right to be here. You don’t.
-

CC Lady, please do not tell me you’re getting territorial over a message board. How typical.
I feel sorry for you (and your kind) b/c your messages exhibit a lot of genuine bitterness and, dare I say, hate against people who have never done anything to physically or emotionally hurt you in any way. If they have, I am sure that they are sorry for it – but I am guessing that your prejudices are based largely on unfounded stereotypes and the hype of school rivalry on campus. Since you are a graduate, I hope that you will not continue to carry the belief that there is “us” and there is “them”. If you do, I guarantee you that you are missing out on the opportunity to get to know some fascinating and inspiring women.

That is pretty immature. I wouldn’t make fun of the name Barnard Columbia students, especially since he was the president of the University from 1864-1869. Have some respect, kids.
“Barnard was a strong advocate of women’s education at Columbia. In 1879, he broached the topic of admitting women to Columbia, but was thwarted at the time by opposition of trustees, faculty, and students. Columbia College remained single-sex until 1983. Barnard’s efforts paid off in 1889, when the trustees compromised by voting to create an affiliated women’s college.”

I am a student at Barnard. Although I don’t agree with my colleague’s first sentence, I do feel that the negative (and hostile) responses to this post highlight the first part of the second sentence. Why is it that CC and SEAS students feel the need to harass and treat BC students as second-rate? Is it because BC has a separate admissions process that you believe is inferior? Newsflash: CC, SEAS and GS all have separate admissions criteria and admission rates. I believe one poster below said that everyone gets into GS. Is it hurting your educational experience at Columbia in some way that Barnard students are being included in your classes and extracurricular activities? Take a look around and count how many of your classmates and club leaders are BC students. Instead of grumbling about this inclusion, you should appreciate the fact that your classes are diverse and that women are represented in the leadership at Columbia (which became the last ivy league school to go coed in 1983). Do you feel that Barnard students are free-riding off of Columbia in some way? Well, just as Barnard students are taking advantage of the resources available at Columbia, Columbia students should take charge of their education as well and explore the great resources that Barnard has to offer, such as the Dance (you know you want to take African dance), English, Political Science, and Theater departments. We also have a great lecture series. Come meet our wonderful professors, like Xiaobo Lu (former director of the Weatherhead East Asian Institute at Columbia), Mary Gordon, or Paula Franzese. Come out to our Block Party in the Spring and our Midnight Breakfast before finals. We promise we’ll give you a warmer reception than we have received from you.
We are all passionate, caring and intelligent people here. We all want to be better people coming out of college. Why does it matter which school has a more competitive admissions process or why Barnard does not have a separate network from Columbia? Why does it bother you when Barnard students introduce themselves as Columbia students after they have taken and performed well in Columbia classes, served as presidents of clubs at Columbia, and scored points on behalf of Columbia at tennis matches, basketball games, or fencing matches? FYI, we also graduate with a Columbia degree.
I personally did not apply to Barnard b/c of its affiliation with Columbia. I did not even realize its close affiliation until I started school here. Nevertheless, I am taking advantage of classes at Columbia and serve as a leader on several clubs on the CU campus. This is not because I care about the fact that I can put on my resume that I have served as a leader of a club at Columbia, but b/c I genuinely care about the issues that these clubs support. It hurts me to think that, despite all of my hard work on these clubs, my peers at CC, SEAS or GS either think they are better than me or that I do not deserve to be there with them on those boards.

So you’re saying that Barnard is a part of Columbia now? I thought you guys were saying that it’s not before. And you don’t think SEAS or GS students do the same thing? I know plenty of SEAS girls who pretend they are interested in engineering on their applications, and then try to transfer after their first year.
